The landfilled former chalk quarry, known as Stone Pit 1 is currently being restored by Land Logical. They have been exploring the feasibility of developing the land in conjunction with the Local Plan and the priorities set out by the Stone Parish Neighbourhood Plan.

The Proposed Development

The Vision which is being called Atlas Park, is hoped to be a place for ‘ nature, active play, and healthy living’.

The key elements are:

1)Delivering a real ‘heart’ for Stone parish at Horns Cross.

  • A multi-GP Medical Centre, subject to confirmation of NHS funding
  • A convenience store to expand the local offer and meet the needs of a rapidly growing local population
  • A number of small retail units with offices above, suitable for ‘start-ups’, all of which will add to local employment opportunities

    • 2)A ‘sports estate’, developed in partnership with Halls AFC, providing artificial and grass football pitches for club and wider community use

    3)Some 15 acres set aside for informal recreational use by the local community between Horns Cross and stone Village

    In the longer term, post completion of site restoration, there is further scope for delivering more landscape features to encourage biodiversity value, recreational space, and off-road links.
