Building on the previous plan, it focuses on improving Council services and facilities, strengthening community engagement, protecting and enhancing local green spaces, embracing digital innovation and ensuring the Council remains financially sustainable.

HISTORY

Stone Through the Years

The town takes its name from the stony situation of it; Stane in Saxon signifying a Stone. It is referred to as Estanes in the Domesday Book and has a history reaching back as far as Saxon times demonstrated by large quantities of Iron Age and Roman pottery excavated locally

  • St Mary's Church - A Grade I listed medieval church with remarkable 13th-century architecture.
  • Stone Castle – a distinctive local landmark incorporating a tower thought to date from the late 12th century.
  • Bluewater – the former chalk-quarry landscape was transformed with the opening of the shopping centre in 1999.
  • A Changing Landscape – Stone has evolved from its historic rural roots through centuries of development and industry.
