Over the past two days, the Stone Parish community united to honour those who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces. Our annual Remembrance Service, led by Reverend Kenneth Clark, was a poignant tribute held on Sunday, featuring contributions from the Gravesham Borough Band, Stone St. Mary’s choir, Parade Marshal Cllr Jan Ozog, and our readers. We extend our deepest gratitude to each of them for their participation in this memorable occasion.

This year, in a meaningful change of tradition, the service was held at the original war memorial in Atlas Park, thanks to the generosity of Land Logical, the landowners, who granted access to this historic site. Many residents expressed appreciation for the rare opportunity to visit this hidden memorial, reflecting on its history while paying their respects to those who sacrificed so much.

Following the service, the wreaths laid at the Atlas Park memorial were moved to the Stone Recreation Ground memorial, allowing all community members to view them in remembrance.

Additionally, in a special gesture to honour our local heroes, Stone Parish Council’s Chair, Cllr Jessica McQueen, and Vice-Chair, Cllr Stephanie Thredgale, visited Stone Cemetery on St. James Lane to lay poppy crosses for twenty brave individuals who served in the First and Second World Wars.

Reflecting on the events, Cllr Jessica McQueen stated, “It was a privilege to honour our local heroes at Stone Cemetery. Their sacrifices continue to inspire our community, and it’s our duty to ensure their memories live on.”

We thank all who attended and contributed to this moving commemoration, reminding us of the enduring spirit and unity within Stone Parish.
