Council Approves Funding to Address Persistent Lorry Parking Issues on London Road
At the Full Council meeting, held on Wednesday 24th July, the council resolved to fund design work for potential build outs and parking restrictions for London Road as a measure to remedy the ongoing problems experienced by lorry parking along this stretch of road.
Councillors have received numerous more reports in recent weeks and months of issues surrounding lorry parking. Members met recently with KCC Highways representatives to discuss highways-related issues in Stone, focusing on the issues in London Road. At the site meeting, it was suggested that double yellow lines and build outs along certain stretches might help to alleviate the issue.
The council is awaiting a presentation from Dartford Borough Council on the London Road Green Corridor Scheme contained in the Stone Neighbourhood Plan, which will see this stretch of road transformed, permanently resolving the ongoing issue of lorry parking. However, this scheme continues to be delayed and even once published, may take some time to achieve full funding to implement fully. The council is therefore keen that some interim measure can be established.
Council Chair, Cllr Jessica McQueen commented,
“We recognise the significant impact that lorry parking has had on our community, and we are committed to finding effective solutions. The approved funding for design work is a crucial step towards alleviating these issues, and we are optimistic that the proposed measures will bring much-needed relief to the residents of London Road,”
